McCall calls for evaluation of welfare reform

State Comptroller H. Carl McCall Monday called for welfare reform to be carefully evaluated over time, using objective measures. He claims this will benefit the fiscal health of families as well as state and local governments.

"Program evaluation will give policy makers a powerful tool to improve choices regarding investments in social services programs," McCall emphasized. He said the current welfare debate in Albany will determine how the state spends its annual public assistance budget of $5.5 billion, which ...
