As a steady spring rain washed the night outside the Germantown Jewish Centre last week, tears and prayers washed the grief of those who had gathered within.
More than 120 members of the community had come together in the synagogue's basement canteen to pray for Rabbi Devora Bartnoff, who lay gravely ill with breast cancer in a Seattle hospital.
