A History of Modern India: How Jinnah emerged as the champion of the Muslims
Through the 1920s till 1937 Mohammad Ali Jinnah presented the image of a successful lawyer who was dedicated to the goal of national independence, but with communal `safe-guards.' After 1920, his only organizational affiliation was with the Muslim League, which in the 1920s and 1930s had little popular following and represented elite Muslim interest.
