PARIS, Dec. 15 (IPS) -- A French pharmaceutical company has
just developed a new cure for poisonous snakebites, which claim
the lives of 20,000 Africans each year.
But the new treatment, manufactured by the French firm Aventis
Pasteur and known as "anti-venom FAV-Africa," is extremely
expensive and beyond the means of most rural dwellers. The price
of just one dose equals the monthly income of a peasant family.
