LUANDA, Jul. 3 (AIA/GIN) -- Angola's intellectuals are calling
for more recognition for indigenous languages, which they say have
been needlessly subverted by Portuguese.
They pour particular scorn on politicians born in the country
who know only European languages and need interpreters when
addressing public meetings outside the main towns.
Angola has a population estimated between 10 and 12 million
inhabitants, of which only about three or four million have
mastered Portuguese (the official language). The rest express
