LIMA, June 6 (IPS) -- History has been written primarily by men
and, since history was chiefly a European pursuit imported to the
New World, there is little reliable information available here on
the role of indigenous women in ancient Peru.
Researchers Imelda Vega and Maria Rostworowski are trying to
remedy this situation. Vega, a sociologist at Peru's Catholic
University, says, "Until now, the history of our country has been
an account of actions conceived, promoted and conducted by men, to
the exclusion of women."
