Carob - fruit that personifies Tu B'Shevat.

For centuries, the carob has been the fruit that is associated with Tu B'Shevat, the New Year of the Trees or Jewish Arbor Day, which falls this year on Thursday, Jan 23. One of the customs of this minor holiday is to eat fruits or nuts which grow in Israel.

For pragmatic reasons, the carob, a sweet-tasting dried pod, has become the main symbol of Tu B'Shevat.
