Fed: Catholic Health fears charities may lose tax free status
CANBERRA, Sept 19 AAP - An inquiry into charities was a means to cut tax exemptions,
Catholic Health Australia executive director Francis Sullivan said today.
Prime Minister John Howard yesterday announced an inquiry into the definitions of charitable,
religious and community not-for-profit organisations to help bring the legal framework
governing the sector into the 21st century.
He said the common law of charity dated back to 1601, giving rise to legal disputes
and legislative problems.
