The present conflict in eastern Zaire features a confusing array of players:
THE ZAIRIAN ARMY: Notoriously ill-disciplined and disorganized, the 25,000-strong Zairian army has been accused of serious human rights violation, and troops and officers are known to take sides in conflicts for their own profit.
