Fed: Farmers may be forced off the land by weeds

CANBERRA, Aug 17 AAP - Farmers could be forced off the land by overgrowth of weeds
which now cost the economy $3.3 billion a year.

A special scientific briefing was told today weeds, and the herbicides used to control
them, were costing the $9 billion grain industry at least $1.2 billion annually.

Western Australian farmer Dale Baker said the situation had become so serious some
farmers were moving from cropping to livestock because they could no longer control weeds.
