BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. (AFNS) -- In a surprise ceremony, a native of Gilmer, Texas, finally received the Distinguished Flying Cross he earned as a B-17 Flying Fortress navigator while assigned to 8th Air Force, flying missions over Germany during World War II.
