JACKI LYDEN, Host: In the early days of computers, before laptops and laser printers and WordPerfect and Windows, there was Fortran. It was the world's first computer language, quite literally the stuff from which modern computer software came. This week in Washington, the National Academy of Engineering honored the inventor of Fortran. NPR's Dan Charles reports.
