Soc: Thai court sentences bookie to jail in Euro 2000 clampdown

BANGKOK, June 21 AFP - A Thai court today sentenced a bookie to 10 months in jail in
a swift hearing aimed at ending illegal gambling during the Euro 2000 soccer championship.

Vasuphol Amatawat, 47, confessed to illegally accepting bets after he was caught with
120,300 baht ($A5,162) and a list of punters who had laid bets on Euro 2000, English premier
league and division one soccer matches.
