Israel's messy and early withdrawal of its troops on 24 May from
southern part of Lebanon after more than 22 years demonstrates its realization
that its hard-line policy with the Arab neighbors does not succeed in the
end. The withdrawal was scheduled to be some time in early July but since
its ally South Lebanese Army (SLA) melted away a few days earlier, Israel
had no option but to withdraw its troops from the Lebanese territory. The
