WA: Cocos Island escapes cyclone impact
Cocos Island has been spared the brunt of severe tropical cyclone Paul, experiencing
relatively mild winds as the cyclone passed to the south.
Bureau of Meteorology forecaster BARRY HANSTRUM says the category-four cyclone passed
within 200km of the island.
Winds gusted up to 45kph on the island but winds at the centre of the storm were up to 260kph.
Cyclone warnings were likely to be cancelled at 4pm (WST), although Paul's progress
