Pearson Merges TV Unit With CLT-UFA

LONDON (AP) -- British media group Pearson PLC, publisher of the Financial Times newspaper and The Economist magazine, plans to merge its television operations with the European broadcaster CLT-UFA.

The combined company would have the broadest reach of any TV or radio broadcaster in Europe, industry analysts said of the deal announced today.

It would have annual revenues of about $3.8 billion and analysts estimated it would be worth $19.2 billion or more.
