U. Hawaii astronomy team look back in time using X-ray backgrounds

(Ka Leo O Hawaii) (U-WIRE) HONOLULU -- Using Mauna Kea, Hubble telescope and Chandra X-ray Observatory data, Amy Barger, University of Hawaii astronomer, helped solve a universal mystery.
A team of astronomers, which included fellow UH Institute for Astronomy astronomer Lennox Cowie, now know the source of the majority of X-ray backgrounds.
"The X-ray background is the cumulative emission of X-rays from everything beyond our galaxy," Barger said.
