KENYA-ENVIRONMENT: GULF SCIENTISTS HELPING TO SAVE KORI BUSTARDS

NAIROBI, Jul. 1 (IPS) -- Ornithologists in Kenya are being
assisted by a Gulf-based avian research center to satellite track
vanishing flocks of Kori bustards, whose survival in the next
century is in serious doubt.
The Ornithology Department of the National Museums of Kenya
(NMK) has identified the Kori as one of 72 varieties of birds on
the country's endangered list. The pilot phase of the project which
was launched in mid-June, involves only Kori bustards.
