BUTIAMA, Oct. 23 (IPS) -- Former Tanzania President, Mwalimu
Julius Kambarage Nyerere, who died of cancer in London last week,
was buried today in his hometown of Butiama, about 1,400 kilometers
northwest of the capital Dar es Salaam.
The burial service took place at Butiama Catholic Church near
the humble family house in which he was born 77 years ago.
Addressing the congregation, Archbishop Anthony Mayalla of Mwanza
diocese, northern Tanzania, described Nyerere's life as a mirror
upon which others can measure their lifestyle.
