FED: Beazley proposes direct election referendum

Opposition Leader KIM BEAZLEY has proposed a referendum on direct election of an Australian
head of state under a future Labor government.

Australians on November 6 will vote on a proposal to replace the Queen with a president
chosen by a two-thirds majority of federal parliament.
