When Claudette Colbert, one of several movie stars to portray Cleopatra, sauntered across a mausoleum, some claimed that the scene was distorting historical fact. As proof they referred to the obelisks standing in New York and London, called "Cleopatra Needles," as evidence that she was of African stock and not European.
