The book The Shi`ites: Ritual and Popular Piety in a Muslim Community by David Pinault is a welcome addition to the growing corpus of studies on shi`i beliefs and practices. This book focuses on a small Isma`ili (Aga Khani) community in Hyderabad, India, thus adding an extra dimension to the existing literature that deals mainly with Twelver Shi`ism and usually in its heartlands - Iran and the Arab Levant.
