QLD: Opposition calls for British child abuse laws for state

BRISBANE, Sept 3 AAP - The Queensland Opposition may adopt a British Labour Government
policy making it illegal for convicted child sex offenders to accept or apply for work
involving children.

Under current Queensland law, the onus is on employers to check a person's background
before granting a job.

Queensland opposition justice spokesman Lawrence Springborg said the law, which carries a
maximum five year jail term, could target any offender with the potential to abuse children.
