WASHINGTON -- George W. Bush's opponents will benefit from his record-setting fund raising because, with Bush forgoing taxpayer aid for his campaign, other candidates will get more of their money sooner.
The Texas governor who raised $37 million through midyear, more than all the other Republican primary candidates combined decided to give up federal matching funds for presidential candidates to avoid spending limits tied to them.
