In the diaspora: Kuchma elicits a mixed reaction.

JERSEY CITY, N.J. -- Ukraine squares off for its fourth year of independent statehood with a new power structure at the helm in Kyyiv. It has shed the "party of power" from its executive and will replace it with the ranks surrounding the former director of the world's largest missile factory, Leonid Kuchma.
