Blanche Hudon, who for years was a close personal friend and assistant to the
late U.S. Sen. Margaret Chase Smith, died Sunday at her Oak Street home after
a long illness. She was 94.
In 1940, she moved to Washington, D.C., on the staff of U.S. Rep. Clyde
Smith. After his death, she enjoyed a long career as the personal assistant
and confidante of Margaret Chase Smith, with whom she had grown up in
Skowhegan.
