FED: No minister case marks new era for public service

CANBERRA, July 30 AAP - There's a certain irony behind the row between Defence Department
Secretary Paul Barratt and his minister John Moore.

As Opposition Leader Kim Beazley dryly noted, Mr Barratt has a record of pushing for public
service sackings and has argued against workers having the right to fight dismissals in the
courts.

In his previous job as executive director of the Business Council of Australia, Mr Barratt
was a strong supporter of the Howard government's plans to slash public ...
