"They really tried to deny us of our basic rights." said Congressman Bobby Rush. Rush was referring to the infamous 1988 incident in which he, Ald. Dorothy Tillman and Ald. Allen Streeter had charges filed against them by Art Institute student David Nelson and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). They were charged with interfering with Nelson's first amendment right to free speech as his art piece depicted the late Mayor Harold Washington in female undergarments.
