Government constitutes National Security Council

The government last week set up the National Security Council (NSC) which has been vested with the task of taking a "holistic" view of the country's security requirements.

The six-member NSC, headed by Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and including four Cabinet ministers and the deputy chairman of the Planning Commission, will be aided by two back-up bodies - the Strategic Policy Group and the National Security Advisory Board, Mahesh Uniyal reports.
