Agate Internet Services has stopped providing service, leaving its 1,000 or
so customers without e-mail or Internet connections.
Four other Internet service providers have agreed to provide Agate customers
with temporary free access to their networks. Stephen Gilbert, president of
CyberTours Inc. in Kennebunk, said the goal is to keep the "agate.net" name
alive so customers don't have to change their e-mail addresses, business cards
or other things that would disrupt their lives.
