`The Farming of Bones' excavates Black literature

Lately, it seems that books penned for today's African-American audiences far too often deal with the same, rehashed, monotonous topics that in a sense demean 20th century Black literature.

Whether it's the "sistah-girl, Black male bashing" tripe, or the "superficial, ghetto struggle" offering, much to often readers are left to choose between the lesser of two disappointments.
