FED: Rare Aussie dangers revealed among bites and stings

BRISBANE, May 10 AAP - Goannas can inflict a nasty bite, and inland anglers should beware
the platypus spur, a venom expert says.

Dr Ken Winkel, from the Australian Venom Research Unit, said such injuries from wildlife
icons could require emergency treatment - but thankfully were quite rare.

The first national study of bite and sting injury hospitalisations has found a total of
3,367 admissions in a year, of which 38 per cent were due to ...
