Spring sales of Sotheby's and Christie's in New York this week and next are as exciting as ever. Sotheby's sale of the Whitney estate and its sales of Impressionist and Modern Art tomorrow, Tuesday and Wednesday (the major gems of the Whitney were reported in this column last week), are followed on by Christie's exciting sales of 19th- and 20th- century art this Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Then comes Sotheby's massive sales of hundreds of lots of Contemporary Art on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.
