FED: Senate GST vote a test of political system: PM

ADELAIDE, April 29 AAP - The Senate vote on the federal government's tax package loomed as
a moment of truth for whether the Australian political system worked, Prime Minister John
Howard said today.

Mr Howard told a Liberal Party business lunch that the government had a mandate from voters
to introduce its controversial tax package and therefore had a right to tell Labor, the
Australian Democrats and the Greens they ought to listen to the Australian people.
