PYONGYANG'S bungled kidnapping of its own diplomat and his family in
Thailand may sabotage its uphill task to win more friends in Asean which
is a crucial stepping stone to connect the isolated communist state to
the world community.
Over the past two decades, North Korea has been pushing hard to
establish its relations with Asean member states. The bottom line was to
win a seat in the 21-member Asean Regional Forum (ARF) to which Pyongyang
has applied since 1994.
