COLOMBO, Mar. 19 (IPS) -- In a small village in Sri Lanka's war-
torn north, young people are trying to revive the dead tradition
of hand-made leather footwear, that vanished 16 years ago with the
eruption of a bloody civil war.
"This village was famous for the best hand-made leather products
in Jaffna before the war. We want to re-establish these skills and
craft," said Richard Gant of the United Nations Development Program
(UNDP) which is assisting the project.
