PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (AP) _ Khmer Rouge rebels drove a large government force from the base of a strategic mountain on Tuesday, days after members of the guerrilla group massacred villagers in central Cambodia.

Both offensives indicated that Pol Pot's death was not, as some had hoped, an assurance of the Khmer Rouge's own dissolution.

The Cambodian army claims the guerrillas' ranks have dwindled to 200 to 300, as they have been pushed out of their northern stronghold of Anlong Veng by mutineers supported by government troops.
