JERUSALEM (AP) _ After half a century, the Israeli army censor's grip is slipping.
Since Israel's founding in 1948, the press has worked under the watchful eye of the censor, who is supposed to rule on the publication of news and pictures on topics defined as security-related _ including everything from oil supplies to immigration to government loans.
Journalists who defy the censor can have their press credentials revoked or face police charges; news organizations can be fined or closed down.
