Doctors in China have developed a new way _ one that's safer, faster and easier on pregnant women _ to test fetuses for a potentially fatal blood problem known as Rh incompatibility.

Instead of sticking a long needle through the mother's abdomen and into her uterus, the doctors just draw some of her blood for analysis. The test results are available in a day instead of a week or more.

The test, which was developed at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Prince of Wales Hospital, is not ready for general use. But it looks ...
