Hundreds evacuated in surprise Carmel area floods

Widespread floods forced the evacuation of dozens of homes and at least one school in the foothills of Mt. Carmel yesterday and at one stage cut the southern access to Haifa and stopped rail traffic to and from the city.

For several hours both the main coastal highway and the old Haifa-Hadera road were blocked between the Zichron Ya'acov and Atlit junctions because of floods.
