Few garden plants have the celebrity status of the begonia - earned by its spectacular flowers, foliage display and length of flowering time.

The begonia has a fascinating history. Years before a name for the genus was established, many species were known under other names. Asian paintings and fine pieces of art depict begonias, showing that the plant was popular in the Far East hundreds of years ago, before it was discovered by the Western World.
