LIBERIA: PRESIDENT SAYS HE FAILED TO DELIVER ON ELECTION PROMISES

MONROVIA, Aug. 25 (IPS) -- Liberia's President Charles Taylor
said today that he has failed to deliver on election promises
during his first year in office, and appealed to his country's 2.8
million people to give him another chance.
"I have failed my first year. I have not been able to do what
I should have done in my year in office. Many of the high
expectations... have not been met. Our agriculture is ravaged, our
infrastructure is ruined and our people are devastated and
disappointed," said Taylor on his first anniversary in office.
