MORE than a hundred rubber processing plants are expected to shut down
by the end of this year owing to the falling price and demand in major
markets, an industry leader said.
The recent shutdown of rubber plants owned by the country's largest
exporter Teck Bee Hang Co Ltd has raised serious concerns on the troubled
rubber industry which contributes Bt50 to Bt60 billion per annum in foreign
exchange earnings.
Natural rubber is currently traded at Bt17 per kilo, down from Bt23
