The water is swift, silky and cold. As morning mists stir light into the Lewis River just above Swift Reservoir, the roar of two aluminum boats hot-rodding up the river shatters the stillness. A hundred yards from the reservoir, the engines stop. From each boat, men begin feeding lacy, transparent nets into the translucent green water.
Both boats drift downstream while the men play out the nets lightly, alert for the tug of a big fish. They are trolling for bull trout, waiting to capture and tag the most ancient, endangered and ...
