Thursday, December 11, 2008 -- The winter crocus (karkom horpi in Hebrew) is a geophyte that grows in the northern half of the country. The flower is endemic to Israel, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria.

Like the meadow saffron, the winter crocus grows after the first rains, just following the meadow saffron. The flower grows with no visible stem and the leaves appear after the flower.
