DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania, May 27, 2008 (IPS/GIN) -- The poorest
residents of Dar es Salaam are often forced to pay up to 2,500
percent more than the Tanzanian city's wealthier residents pay per
liter of water.
This cruel setup is a result of the poorest residents' reliance
on water vendors. A lack of infrastructure and the expense of new
water connections have combined to make piped water unavailable in
the poorer areas of Tanzania's commercial hub, forcing many of the
