Fed: Australian airman recalls days of Berlin airlift

CANBERRA, April 1 AAP - David Evans clearly remembers the daily hazards of flying the
Berlin airlift - the thick cloud, sleet and icy runways.

Australian pilots might have encountered lousy weather during the aerial cavalcade
60 years ago, but they also enjoyed five cent beers at the local bars.

The Berlin airlift pitted the will of western powers against the Soviet Union during
a blockade of the German capital.
