KYRGYZSTAN: PAYMENT FROM UKRAINE FLOWS INTO STATE COFFERS

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, Nov. 19, 2007 (IPS/GIN) -- Ukraine recently
gave $27.3 million to Kyrgyzstan to repay an outstanding state debt
incurred in the years up to the collapse of the Soviet Union in
1991.
Ukraine had originally resisted the payment, and in drawn-out
negotiations, contested Kyrgyzstan's claim that the money was owed
by the government. The Ukrainian government insisted that the debt
was instead owed by Ukrainian business enterprises to their Kyrgyz
partners.
