U. Texas area to release new floodplains

(Daily Texan) (U-WIRE) AUSTIN, Texas -- In the midst of some of the wettest weather Austin has experienced in years, Travis County and Austin residents have until Aug. 10 to comment on standards in area maps, which have decreased the floodplain in the city but have increased the plain on Lake Travis. Areas near the lake, such as Graveyard Point, are subject to frequent flooding.

The city of Austin paid $1 million of the $4 million the Federal Emergency Management Agency needed to reconstruct the maps.
