Carlo Maria Badini, a former superintendent of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan who brought the opera house into the age of television and corporate sponsorship, died in Bologna on Thursday. He was 81.His death was announced by La Scala, which did not give a cause. The Italian news agency ANSA reported that Badini had died from a serious illness.Badini led La Scala from 1977 to 1990 after a similar 13-year span in charge of the Teatro Communale of Bologna.
